چکیده

Sea Surface Temperature (SST) is at the core of many processes in oceans. Various remote sensing platforms have been used to obtain SST products different scales, but their validation remains a topic ongoing research. One promising platform an uncrewed surface vehicle called Saildrone. We use data from eight Saildrone deployments USA West Coast 2019 campaign validate MODIS level-2 and Multi-scale Ultra-high Resolution (MUR) level-4 satellite 1 km spatial resolution assess robustness quality levels over California Coast. Pixel-based comparisons between were performed, as well thermal gradient computed both pixel-base level using kriging interpolation. The results generally showed better accuracies for MUR products. characterization proved be valid areas covered by bad-quality pixels less lower-quality pixels. latter implies possible errors interpolation processes. demonstrated ability Saildrones accurately near-shore provide important information assessment

On the Validation of Satellite-Derived Sea Ice Surface Temperature

The surface temperature of sea ice controls the rate of ice growth and heat exchange between the ocean and the atmosphere. An algorithm for the satellite retrieval of ice surface temperature has recently been published, but due to the lack of validation data has not been extensively tested. In this paper, data from a recent Arctic field experiment is used in an attempt to validate that algorith...

Gravity acceleration at the sea surface derived from satellite altimetry data using harmonic splines

Gravity acceleration data have grand pursuit for marine applications. Due to environmental effects, marine gravity observations always hold a high noise level. In this paper, we propose an approach to produce marine gravity data using satellite altimetry, high-resolution geopotential models and harmonic splines. On the one hand, harmonic spline functions have great capability for local gravity ...

Near Real-time Validation of Satellite Sea Surface Temperature Products at Rainbow Gardens Reef, Lee Stocking Island, Bahamas

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Coral Reef Watch program is installing in situ monitoring stations at strategic coral reef areas for purposes of establishing long-term data sets, providing near real-time information products, and surface-truthing NOAA satellite sea surface temperature (SST) products used for coral bleaching predictions ("HotSpots"). The suite of sta...

Toward Improved Validation of Satellite Sea Surface Skin Temperature Measurements for Climate Research

A poor validation strategy will compromise the quality of satellite-derived sea surface temperature (SST) products because confidence limits cannot be quantified. This paper addresses the question of how to provide the best operational strategy to validate satellite-derived skin sea surface temperature (SSTskin) measurements. High quality in situ observations obtained using different state-of-t...
